Tips for a Holiday Home Transformation - Part 1

A great place to start your holiday decorating is by deciding on a theme. Do you want elegant, casual, bold or simple? Do you want each room decorated? What supplies do you have on hand from previous years? Are you happy with your current decorations or do you want to change things? Are you going to do everything yourself or hire a professional to do the decorating for you?

The Exterior-First Impressions. Give your guests a "Warm Welcome" by decorating the exterior with fabulous white lights strung along the front of the house and through the trees. Trim the entryway with garland and a giant wreath, studded with gold and natural pinecones, and tied with a gold ribbon bow. Evergreen lighted topiaries lining the pathway to your front door add a festive ambiance.

Lavish Your Lighting. Create some warmth in your home by adding glimmering holiday lights. Intertwine garland and glass ornaments to your hanging light fixtures. Add a nice flicker of light to your rooms with holiday candles in varying color and sizes. Make your hallways glow by attaching garland and tiny white lights around your reflective mirrors.

Frost Your Home. It's time to take the icing beyond the holiday cookies. Transform your home into a wintery wonderland. For Thanksgiving use fall colors (gold, rust, orange, brown). For Christmas start with a palette of white, cream, and silver. These colors are modern and luxurious. Without too much work, you can incorporate this palette into your throw pillows, blankets, center pieces, dishware and much more. To add warmth and interest use a variety of textures such as faux furs, velvet and heavy cottons.

Deck Out Your Mantel. Whether it's glitz and glamour or simple and warm, string ornaments across the mantel that will reflect the flickering fire underneath. Your mantel is a great place to showcase your most special holiday decorations. Of course the stockings are hung with love and care!

Chair Bows. Tie gold mesh to the chair backs; add a sprig of fresh evergreen and a few ornaments. Instant sparkle! The same can be done with fall decor and colors.
