Tips for Memorial Day Entertaining

Can you BELIEVE that we are almost through the month of May? With the end of May comes one of my favorite summer holidays MEMORIAL DAY! This holiday is all about the outdoors, family time, game playing and eating. Smiles abound, laughter is loud and memories are made. Here are some ideas to make YOUR holiday extra special!

GET YOUR COMMUNITY INVOLVED WITH AN OLD FASHIONED PARADE

Nothing says Memorial Day more than an old fashioned Bike Parade! I used to live on a horse property in North Scottsdale. Everyone in the neighborhood would gather down at the community arena, line up and proceed to "parade" through the hood. I along with others rode my horse who was all decked out in red, white and blue. Kids rode their bikes, retirees drove their golf carts, families walked with their strollers and dogs. Do you know who Jan D'Atri is? Well she played her Accordion. It was so much fun! We all experienced heartfelt community spirit.

DECORATE YOUR ENTRY - FIRST IMPRESSIONS COUNT

First impressions count, right? Flower pots filled geraniums and sweet alyssum are my personal favorite! Add mason jars decorated with a flag which can be attached with Mod Podge or easier yet purchased as peel & stick flags at the craft store. Use burlap string around the top and put a candle in the each jar (a small amount of sand or kitty litter will hold the votive candle in place).

INVOLVE YOUR KIDS WITH THIS DIY PROJECT

Love this handcrafted pallet flag at the front door. Place a patriotic pillow on the chair to add more color and punch!

KIDS GAMES = ADULT LAUGHTER

These spray painted stars are so much fun. I see a game for the kiddos created out of this!

PREPARE SOME DELICIOUS SANGRIA

A delicious sangria really only needs three basic components: wine (red, white, rosé or sparking), fruit and a sweetener such as sugar or even lemonade concentrate.  Additional elements such as sparkling water, brandy and other liquors add further distinction.

EASY DIY TABLECLOTH IDEA FOR YOUR MEMORIAL DAY ENTERTAINING

Easy to make tablecloth using red, white and blue bandanas. For extra detail stitch across the top with a dark blue thread.

SIMPLE VASES WITH FRESH FLOWERS ADD SPARKLE TO THE TABLE

Add some sparkle and fun to the table with clear cobalt blue vases filled with white daisies and red carnations

CAN I SAY YUM!

Healthy and delicious fruit kabobs made with blueberries, raspberries and small marshmallows

DRINK STATIONS ARE SO MUCH FUN - HERE'S ONE ESPECIALLY FOR THE KIDDOS

Let's not forget the kiddos - they have their own drink station created from vintage pieces!
